Introduction *
The present study was designed to determine the frequency and histopathological type of thyroid carcinoma in patients presenting with solitary thyroid nodule in a tertiary care hospital.
Material & Method *
A cross-sectional study was conducted over a span of 10 months from June 2024 to March 2025 after IRB approval. Sample size was calculated by using Open EPI software. All cases diagnosed with solitary thyroid nodule presenting at Department of General Surgery, JPMC during the assigned dates, were included in our study. A structured proforma was designed to collect the data. Data was analyzed by using SPSS version 22.0.
Results *
Mean age of patient with SD was 42.18±5.64 years. Out of 158 participants, majority were female 98 (62.02%). On histology, 38(24.0%) cases were reported as malignant and 120(75.9%) were benign. Most common malignant lesion on histopathological analysis was found to be papillary carcinoma 25(65.7%). Significant statistical association was found between histopathological findings and duration of nodule development (p=0.0047), between FNAC and final histopathology (p<0.0001).
Conclusion *
Considerable proportion of solitary thyroid nodule was found to be malignant. It emphasizes the need for a high index of suspicion in clinical evaluation of solitary thyroid nodule which will help in early diagnosis and timely intervention.
