Introduction *
Chronic venous disease (CVD) is a prevalent vascular condition affecting patient quality of life and work productivity. Endovenous Laser Ablation (EVLA) is a minimally invasive alternative to surgery, but large-scale outcome data from India remains limited.
Material & Method *
This retrospective observational study reviewed 3300 patients treated with EVLA for symptomatic varicose veins at a tertiary care center in Mumbai from January 2022 to June 2025. Clinical improvement was assessed using the Revised Venous Clinical Severity Score (rVCSS), and quality of life through the Chronic Venous Insufficiency Questionnaire (CIVIQ-20) at baseline, 1 month, and 6 months. Patient satisfaction was evaluated using a 5-point Likert scale.
Results *
The mean age of the patients was 46.3 ± 11.2 years; 62% were male. Unilateral EVLA was performed in 79.1%, and varicose ulcers were present in 8.9%. rVCSS decreased from 9.6 ± 2.4 pre-treatment to 2.1 ± 1.7 at 6 months (p < 0.001). CIVIQ-20 scores improved significantly in 89% of patients. High satisfaction (Likert score ≥4) was reported by 94%, including 98% in patients with ulcers. 85% resumed normal activities within 3 days. Minor complications occurred in <0.5% of patients.
Conclusion *
EVLA is a safe, effective, and patient-centered intervention for chronic venous disease in the Indian population. Dual assessment using rVCSS and CIVIQ-20 provides a comprehensive measure of clinical and patient-reported outcomes, supporting its broader implementation in high-volume settings.
