Introduction *
Inguinocrural hernias are one of the most common pathologies seen in general surgeons' offices. They account for 75% of abdominal wall hernias. The only curative alternative is surgery. The method or approach for the surgical resolution of inguinal hernias has evolved; since 1990, the conventional laparoscopic approach using three ports has been implemented. Among the most innovative techniques is Single-Incision Laparoscopic Surgery (SILS).
Material & Method *
We included our series of 15 patients who underwent SIL-TEP surgery between March 2018 and July 2025 at the Ángeles Puebla Hospital, Mexico, with different variables such as surgical time, complications, stay, pain and aesthetics.
Results *
Fifteen patients with inguinal hernias underwent SIL-TEP surgery, 10 males and 5 females. The mean age was 36.2 years and the median age was 37.5 years. Three patients had bilateral inguinal hernias, five had right inguinal hernias, and seven had left inguinal hernias. The average operative time was 45 minutes for unilateral hernias; for bilateral hernias, the average time was 65 minutes. No patients underwent conversion to another approach. Pneumoperitoneum occurred in some cases, which was resolved with the placement of a 3-mm trocar in the left upper quadrant.
Conclusion *
Inguinal hernia surgery is one of the most commonly performed procedures in surgical practice. Although the SIL-TEP approach has its technical challenges and a steep learning curve, in the hands of experienced surgeons, it represents a valid option for patients seeking to reduce abdominal wall trauma and achieve improved postoperative cosmetics. The SIL-TEP technique is safe, effective, and offers high aesthetic satisfaction.
