Introduction *
Colorectal cancer is the third most common cancer worldwide, accounting for approximately 10% of all cancer cases and is the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide. Aim: To determine the frequency of Clinicopathological presentations of colon cancer.
Material & Method *
Methods: A total of 76 patients of both sex and of age 16-50 year, diagnosed as a case of colon cancer on histopathology at stage I, II, III and stage IV were included. Patients with previously treated for colorectal carcinoma were excluded. Data were prepared for age & sex and symptoms of colorectal cancer (Bleeding per rectum, altered bowel habits, Anemia, weight loss), Histological grade and stage.
Results *
Results: Out of 76 patients, 68% were males, 32% were females with male to female ratio of 2:1. The presentation was 50 cases at elective setup & 26 as acute abdomen with 11 cases with perforation 15 with obstruction at the emergency department. TNM staging revealed the majority of presentation of 33 cases with stage III carcinoma at the elective setup and none presented in stage-I. The main presentation was rectal bleeding in 69 followed by altered bowel habits in 58, anemia in 11 and weight loss in 26 patients. The histopathological grading include mildly differentiated 9%cases, 30% moderately differentiated & 61% poorly differentiated. Majority of poorly differentiated cases presented at early age.
Conclusion *
Conclusion: This study concluded that the early presentation of the colon cancer makes it more grievance for the patient. Keywords: colon cancer, bleeding per rectum, anemia.
