Introduction *
To evaluate the feasibility, safety, and short-term efficacy of minimally invasive partial splenectomy in the treatment of benign splenic space-occupying lesions.
Material & Method *
A retrospective analysis was conducted on the clinical data of 41 patients with benign splenic space-occupying lesions who underwent either MIPS or minimally invasive total splenectomy in the Department of General Surgery, Affiliated Hospital of Xuzhou Medical University, between May 2017 and October 2024. Among them, 21 patients received MIPS and 20 underwent MITS. Preoperative and postoperative laboratory results, operative time, intraoperative blood loss, duration of drainage, length of postoperative hospital stay, and postoperative complications were collected and compared between the two groups.
Results *
All patients successfully completed laparoscopic procedures without conversion to open surgery or perioperative mortality. There were no significant differences in gender, age, BMI, preoperative comorbidities, history of abdominal surgery, or preoperative laboratory parameters between the two groups (P > 0.05). The operative time was significantly longer in the MIPS group compared to the MITS group (163.6±50.3 min vs. 121.4±44.5 min, P = 0.007), whereas the duration of drainage (4.1±1.3 days vs. 5.9±1.7 days, P < 0.001) and postoperative hospital stay (5.4±1.3 days vs. 6.8±1.9 days, P = 0.012) were significantly shorter. No significant difference was observed in intraoperative blood loss between the two groups (100 ml [50, 200] vs. 75 ml [50, 100], P > 0.05).
Conclusion *
Minimally invasive partial splenectomy is a safe and feasible surgical approach for the treatment of benign splenic lesions, demonstrating favorable outcomes.
