Introduction *
This study aims to evaluate the associations between postoperative levels of CRP, Glucose levels, Total Protein Levels after surgery, and possible correlation with postoperative complications.
Material & Method *
This prospective study analyzed 85 patients with colon cancer undergo elective surgery. Preoperative levels of CRP, Glucose levels, Total protein levels were recorded. Postoperative outcomes included time to ambulation, bowel sound recovery, first defecation, hospital stay duration and complication rate recorder.
Results *
Postoperative CRP levels on day 1 were comparable in all groups; patients with complications that arose in the early postoperative period had a long-term increase in CRP (more than 3-4 days) with reduced total protein levels; patients with a smooth postoperative period had a normalization of both CRP and total protein values on days 2-3, and a normalization of glucose levels.
Conclusion *
An increase in CRP values in combination with decreased total protein levels in the early postoperative period indicates a high risk of early postoperative complications in combination with elevated blood glucose levels.
