Abstract
Oral or Poster
Since the introduction of the laparoscopic technique, laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC) has become the gold standard for the management of symptomatic gallstones disease. Early complications include bile duct injuries, bleeding, and wound infections. Serious early complications such as major bile duct injuries are associated with prolonged hospital stay and requirement for further surgeries. Most common complication is hemorrhage followed by CBD injuries.
A prospective study included 50 patients with major bile duct injuries post cholecystectomy
50 patients were included . Female to male ratio was 5:3 . 36 patients presented early ( within week after the first operation) . Only one case was converted to open and the rest of 36 were completed laparoscopically. 9 patients presented more than 7 days and less than 6 weeks after the first operation, and only 2 were converted to open. 5 patients presented very late after conservative management failed , all were completed laparoscopically.
Laparoscopy is feasible in cases of early complications post cholecystectomy in the case of presence of experienced hepatobiliary surgeons
