Introduction *
This study aimed to design and pilot a mobile-based trauma registry system to enhance data collection and improve trauma care in the Philippines, where traumatic injuries are a significant public health burden. Existing surveillance systems often fail to capture the full spectrum of trauma cases, hindering effective prevention and management. The development of a comprehensive trauma registry is imperative.
Material & Method *
A mixed-methods research design evaluated the feasibility, acceptability, and potential impact of the mobile-based registry. The quantitative component involved a survey to assess user satisfaction and a cohort study to evaluate the registry's impact on data quality and clinical outcomes. Qualitative data were collected through interviews with healthcare providers to understand their experiences. The mobile application was developed using the Flutter Framework, ensuring compatibility with both iOS and Android devices. The core data elements in the registry were based on established international standards.
Results *
Pilot implementation at Jose R. Reyes Memorial Medical Center demonstrated its effectiveness in capturing comprehensive trauma data, including injury mechanisms, patient demographics, and clinical outcomes. Healthcare providers found the application user-friendly and efficient, streamlining data entry. Although the pilot didn't significantly impact patient mortality, it improved data quality and completeness. The registry revealed trends in trauma care, providing valuable insights for policy development and research.
Conclusion *
The mobile-based trauma registry demonstrated its feasibility, acceptability, and potential to enhance data collection, clinical decision-making, and policy development. Scaling up could significantly improve trauma outcomes and inform evidence-based interventions.
