Abstract
Oral only
The lead author has been involved in breast cancer surgery for more than 30 years. Since 2018, in cases of larger cavities after breast-conserving procedures in peri- and postoperative care, after performing an evacuation puncture of intracavitary fluid, he began to refill the cavity in with air with Betadine ("Betadine-aerosol"), leaving a slight overpressure in the breast cavity.
A retrospective study including 281 breast cancer patients operated on the clinic between 2017 and 2020. Of these, 58 patients underwent postoperative intracavitary air insufflation with Betadine. The principle of the method is very clearly visible in the video recordings, which were performed with the consent of the patients and are part of the presentation.
The median follow-up period- five years from diagnosis. Overall 84% of the contacted patients rated the cosmetic result as excellent or highly favorable ,13% rated the result as fair, and 3% rated it as unsatisfactory. In the full cohort of 281 patients, eight experienced local recurrence in the breast, and one in the same axilla, amounting to a total of 3.2%. Images of the patients in 2 projections at least 5 years after diagnosis included.
The method is simple and effective. Since the authors did not find any mention of the use of a similar method in the literature, our method can be considered the only one of its kind so far. At this congress, it could be the very first presentation of a completely new method, the essence of which we have not published anywhere yet. https://youtube.com/shorts/EWIasin_bQ8?feature=share
