Abstract
Poster Exhibition only
Constructivism is an educational model in which students actively build knowledge through experience, with the teacher acting as a guide rather than an evaluator. In medical education, particularly in research training, this model encourages students to create academic products such as posters for scientific congresses.
A descriptive, retrospective, and documentary study was conducted. Variables included whether the student was a departmental instructor or not, and participation in surgical congresses. Exclusion criteria were thesis projects and incomplete submissions.
From August 2022 to June 2025, 19 students received mentorship in surgical research. Of these, 10 (52.63%) were instructors at the Department of Surgery, and 9 (47.37%) were not. Among them, one was an international student and one belonged to another institution (UAG). A total of nine scientific events were attended. Topics included: 6 clinical case reports (31.58%), 4 gastrointestinal surgery (21.05%), 3 trauma surgery (15.79%), 3 history of surgery (15.79%), 2 surgical education (10.52%), and 1 neurosurgery (5.27%).
The constructivist mentorship model enabled both instructors and non-instructors to successfully participate in surgical research and academic dissemination. Most posters were clinical case reports, followed by history and education in surgery. This approach reinforces student autonomy and academic productivity in undergraduate medical education.
