Introduction *
The International Association of Student Surgical Societies (IASSS) was founded in 2011 with the purpose of becoming a global hub for surgically inclined medical students. The aim was to promote and nurture interest in surgery amongst medical students [Booth 2017]. The Lancet Commission on Global Surgery has found that about two-thirds of the global population do not have access to safe and affordable surgery. One of the barriers that was described is the lack of trained surgeons in countries that require surgery the most [Meara 2015]. This has garnered global interest in further training more surgeons and nurturing this interest from the grassroots of healthcare. This gap was further recognized by the International Surgical Society (ISS) and since 2017, IASSS has become an integral part of the ISS, an indispensable partnership and the future of surgical healthcare globally. This article celebrates the 10th year anniversary of IASSS and highlights the achievement the team has achieved over the past 10 years.
