Abstract
Oral or Poster
In México, public trauma care services are provided by several institutions. Among all these problems, there are only four highest–level trauma centers in three cities (Monterrey, Puebla, and Mexico City). But none of them specialized or with pediatric surgeons with formal training in trauma, given that the pediatric injuries have a preventable death rate of nearly 32%, there needs to be a greater assessment of existing trauma curricula to optimize paediatric care
We conducted a survey comprising nine questions to pediatric surgeons, trainees, and attendants from the largest cities in Mexico. We aimed to assess the level of training in pediatric trauma, their knowledge of international and local protocols, and whether they were aware of a trauma center in their community
We received a total of 25 answers, the most valuable questions are summarized, : Along with your training, who taught you to deal with the pediatric patient with trauma? 60% they received theorical training from their attendings the rest was distribuited between being teched by senior residents, by themselves and general surgeons,44% of them know the ATLS as a trauma course, 44% did not know the existence of any course.
In LMIC there is no formal training at the curriculum and not enough diffusion of standarized care to the injured child, México it is not an exception of this global situation, It is mandatory to introduce at the pediatric surgical residency program a curriculum of pediatric trauma care and critical care, with this intervention it will improve the current attention
