Abstract
Oral only
We have proposed critical view of safety for identification of RLN during Trans-oral Endoscopic Thyroid Surgery to facilitate standardized, safe, and wide application of TOETVA specially where IONM is not available. In this study we retrospectively analyzed the feasibility of RLN identification and preservation.
According to the different identification methods of the RLN, patients were divided into the CVS group and the standard group (SG) and 1:1 propensity score-matching (PSM) was performed. The demographics, operative data, postoperative data, and postoperative complications were analyzed by comparing the 2 groups.
A total of 102 patients have undergone TOETVA without IONM. 60 patients were in CVS group and 42 in SG. Both the groups were comparable in basic demographic and clinicopathological profile. Compared with the SG group, the operative time, in minutes, of the CVS group was significantly shorter (P = .002). The rate of postoperative temporary RLN injuries were comparable.
The proposed CVS for identification of RLN during Trans-oral Endoscopic Thyroid Surgery is easy to learn and decreases operative time.
